The rise of holiday villas

When you go on holiday, do you prefer the luxury of having everything done for you, but not being able to kick back and treat the place like your home? Or the inconvenience of having to make your own bed but being able to eat when you want, relax in front of the TV and not get woken up by room service when you have a hangover? If you are in the latter category then you are part of a growing industry.

There has been a huge surge in bookings for holiday homes, private villas, as people want a home away from home and have a need to save money wherever possible. It’s not as if everyone is going to give up their family holiday because we were in recession, but we do have to think a little more carefully about where our holiday money is going.

On the other side of the coin, more people are renting out their holiday villas and even their own homes in an attempt to make a little extra money each year to help pay off a mortgage or loan or just ease the free-flow of money in the family purse. Whatever the reason, the online holiday rentals market is growing.

It’s easy to see why really. One family, say of four persons, can have their own place with a pool from £200 a week each, therefore much cheaper than a hotel. Plus you won’t need to eat out all the time as you can cook at home, therefore saving further cash. The real savings come however, when you travel as a large group of four to six people. Then you might only be paying £100 each a week for a luxury villa. This means an upmarket villa holiday with fresh local produce to eat, your own swimming pool with sea views can cost less than two hundred quid. Now try and do that in a 4 or 5 -star hotel!

If you are going away from home this summer then make sure you buy travel insurance. It may make the holiday slightly more expensive, but if you travel without it then require medical attention you will have to fork out the cash for treatment, therefore in the long run, travel insurance has the potential to save you thousands of pounds.
